RENTAL ASSISTANCE
The
Housing Choice Voucher Program, more
formally
known as
"Section 8," offers low-income households an opportunity to
lease privately-owned rental housing at an affordable rate.
This program, administered by LMHA, helps bridge the housing gap
between landlords and low-income tenants by subsidizing the
difference between property rents and the amount that the
household can pay, which is based upon their income.

HOMEOWNERSHIP ASSISTANCE
Although largely a rental assistance program, Lake
Metropolitan Housing Authority also administers a
Homeownership Program as part of the its Housing Choice
Voucher Program. This program allows qualified families
the opportunity to purchase a house, with LMHA assisting in part
with the monthly payments the family makes to a lending
institution. To date, this program has generated five
homeowners in Lake County.
FAMILY SELF SUFFICIENCY
Within the Housing Choice Voucher Program, LMHA operates a
Family Self Sufficiency Program. This program provides
participating households the opportunity to work with LMHA staff
to devise a strategy to move from assistance to economic self
sufficiency. As they progress through employment, LMHA
will establish an escrow savings account for the family.
When the family successfully completes its goals under the
program, they receive a check for the accumulated escrow funds
and the interest it has earned.

that each landlord perform a 'pre-inspection', using this
