Full Time Director of Housing

We seek a Director of Housing for our client, Lake Metropolitan Housing Authority.  The Lake Metropolitan Housing Authority (Lake MHA) is looking for an exceptional management and leadership professional to direct and manage the housing sites of the Lake Metropolitan Housing Authority.

The Director of Housing will be responsible for a variety of day-to-day property management activities including:  managing occupied apartments, marketing vacant apartments, rent collection, overseeing building maintenance and construction projects, maintaining security, budgeting, and supervision of personnel.

In addition, the Director of Housing is responsible for the enforcement of legal rights and responsibilities pertaining to landlord/tenant duties, including enforcement of leases, rules and codes.  This position also serves as a liaison to community, government and service organizations, and engages in ongoing communication with residents.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, business or other related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in residential property management, the planning and management of a business or government program, public/senior housing, government law, procurement or related field.
  • Will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the required knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies of the position.
  • Public Housing Management (PHM) certification or organizational certification from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) required. If not certified, ability to become certified within one year of hire.
  • Strong understanding of landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities and ability to enforce same.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent organizational, project management and recordkeeping skills.
  • Experience and interest in internal and external communications, partnership development, and fundraising.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and presentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be available to respond to resident and property emergencies during non-duty hours, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Legally compliant, confidential and ethical conduct, while living the values of teamwork and maintaining a customer-centered focus.

This consists of two federal housing programs, the Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly known as Section 8) and the Public Housing Program.  These programs offer low and moderate income households the opportunity to rent affordable, decent, and safe housing.  More importantly, Lake MHA provides these households a stable living environment in order for them to work towards economic self-sufficiency.

SALARY:  Beginning at $50,000 commensurate with experience.

Full Time Executive Assistant

We seek an Executive Assistant for our client, Lake Metropolitan Housing Authority.  The Lake Metropolitan Housing Authority is looking for an exceptional, process-oriented administrative professional to provide complex, confidential, and varied administrative support to the Chief Executive Officer and Housing Authority management staff.  Some evening work, including attending monthly Board of Commissioners meetings, is required.

The Executive Assistant will be responsible for a variety of day-to-day administrative and project coordination support work for the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Commissioners, and Housing Authority management staff.  The work requires the frequent use of tact, discretion, independent judgment, knowledge of Housing Authority activities, and the ability to plan and conduct independent projects. The Executive Assistant is the first point of contact for the Chief Executive Officer and the public to resolve issues and concerns, assists in coordinating the Housing Authority’s Board of Commissioner meetings and supervises front office activities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED from a standard or vocational school, supplemented by courses in business administration, public administration or related field. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree a plus.
  • 5 years’ experience in an executive administrative role involving participation in the planning and management of a business or government program.
  • Will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the required knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise a high degree of discretion dealing with confidential matters.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to exercise good judgment and to interact with a variety of individuals with tact and courtesy.
  • Analytical ability is required in order to gather and summarize data for reports, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational, project management and recordkeeping skills. Ability to take meeting minutes.
  • Experience and interest in internal and external communications, partnership development, and fundraising.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and presentation.  Strong attention to grammar, spelling, punctuation and format of written communications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and social media web platforms.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment and systems and the ability to use, maintain and procure.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of regular work hours to attend monthly Board of Commissioners meetings and otherwise represent the CEO and the Lake MHA in the community.

Full Time Maintenance Custodian

Performs unskilled grounds keeping duties (e.g., repairing signs, mowing, weeding, reseeding, fertilizing, and applying herbicides, insecticides, etc., planting greenery, trimming, sweeping walks, leaf collection, plowing, shoveling snow, salting, patching parking lots and drives); performs snow removal from public walkways during weekends and holidays as well as during work week; answers tenant emergency calls.

Obtains work orders and performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor in order to assist with the maintenance of Housing Authority properties and facilities (e.g., painting, patching, waxing, carpet cleaning, light carpentry, unclogs sinks, commodes, and tubs, replaces receptacles, light switches, and fuses, etc.

Develops, fosters, and maintains a good relationship with residents.

Answers emergency service calls after normal business hours (after 5:30 p.m. week days and any time during weekends and holidays).

Prepares vacant units for occupancy (e.g., patches and paints walls, strips and buffs floors, cleans appliances and windows, etc.).
