The Lake MHA Public Housing Program

Lake Metropolitan Housing Authority operates a public housing program for the benefit of low-income families, senior citizens (age 62 and older) and disabled persons. Lake Metropolitan Housing Authority manages four developments in Painesville and Willoughby, Ohio:

The Authority serves as the owner and landlord of the development and charges rent to the household based on 30% of adjusted gross income.

Public Housing Process

  • Review the income limits chart below to verify your income eligibility.
  • Once your application has been received and reviewed to determine that you do not owe monies to Lake MHA or any other housing authority, your name will be placed on the waiting list and Lake MHA will notify you.
  • NOTE: Please be aware that it is your responsibility to notify Lake MHA in writing within 10 days of any changes or updates to your application, including but not limited to: address, adding or removing a family/household member or income changes. Lake MHA does not forward mail.
  • Upon unit availability, Lake MHA will contact you in writing to complete the necessary paperwork for final eligibility determination and move in dates.


Due to the high volume of calls we receive daily regarding waiting list questions, we are unable to return these calls. Please do not call the Housing Authority to inquire as to where you are on the HCV or Public Housing waiting list or when you will receive a housing offer. We are unable to accurately predict when you will receive a housing offer(s).
